Weekend TV Highlights: What to Watch Now

Several new television shows and series premieres are scheduled for this weekend, including a remake of the action film Man on Fire starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The series will debut on Netflix, according to listings published by TV Insider on Friday, May 1, 2026.

Man on Fire is based on the 1990 novel by A.J. Quinnell and previously adapted into a 2004 film starring Denzel Washington. The new series will follow a similar storyline, TV Insider reported.

Also airing on Friday, May 1, 2026, is a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy featuring a storyline connected to the now-concluded series Station 19. The character Maya Bishop, played by Danielle Savre, will be admitted to the hospital with severe burns, according to TV Insider.

HBO will air back-to-back episodes of Hacks, celebrating the anniversary of the show’s hit sitcom and featuring Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and DJ (Kaitlin Olson) on The Amazing Race.

the United Football League will continue its season with a game between the Houston Gamblers and the Columbus Aviators at Historic Crew Stadium. The game is scheduled for Friday evening, TV Insider reported.

Sports fans can also catch MLB baseball, with regional coverage on MLB Network featuring either the San Francisco Giants at the Tampa Bay Rays or the Milwaukee Brewers at the Washington Nationals. PGA Tour Golf’s Cadillac Championship will continue with its second round, and the English Premier League will feature a match between Leeds United and Burnley. NHL Playoffs, First Round coverage will also be available, featuring the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Montreal Canadiens.

A new series, Half Man, will also premiere, following a young Niall (Mitchell Robertson) as he begins college and is soon joined by his “volatile ‘soul brother’ Ruben (Stuart Campbell),” TV Insider reported.
