Logistics disruptions stemming from the West Asia crisis have forced Indian solar module manufacturer Waaree Energies to adjust its international sales strategy, shifting a portion of its shipments toward non-premium markets to mitigate the impact on margins.

The conflict in West Asia has led to increased shipping costs and delivery delays, which have constrained the company’s ability to maintain its previous revenue mix. According to recent data, these disruptions have contributed to a contraction of Waaree Energies’ overseas revenue, which now represents 20% of its total turnover.

Impact on Margins and Market Strategy

The shift toward non-premium markets is a direct response to the volatility in commodity prices and the rising cost of freight. By diversifying its destination ports and targeting markets with different pricing structures, the company aims to protect its profit margins from the escalating costs associated with the West Asia crisis.

Industry-wide data suggests that the regional conflict has significantly increased logistics expenses for solar manufacturers. For instance, executives at other Indian solar firms, such as Grew Solar, reported that logistics costs had increased by 15% to 20% due to the crisis.

Financial Performance and Capacity Expansion

Despite the headwinds in international shipping, Waaree Energies has seen substantial growth in its overall operations. For the 2025-26 financial year (FY26), the company reported that its revenue from operations grew to ₹26,537 crore, up from ₹14,445 crore in FY25, representing an increase of 83.7%.

The company’s production capacity also expanded significantly during this period:

  • Solar module production capacity increased to 12.6 GW in FY26, up from 7.1 GW in FY25.
  • Solar cell production capacity rose to 2.3 GW in FY26, compared to 0.1 GW in FY25.

Further strengthening its domestic position, Waaree Energies received approval under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II for its 5.25 GW solar cells facility.

Diversification and Trade Challenges

The logistics crisis in West Asia coincides with other global trade pressures. The company has had to navigate significant tariffs, including anti-dumping duties in the United States. To counter these, Waaree Energies has worked to rejig its supply chain and diversify cell sourcing into jurisdictions with lower duties to maintain its competitiveness in the U.S. Market.

To reduce reliance on any single region, the company has expressed intentions to widen its overseas revenue basket. Beyond the United States, Waaree Energies has targeted the European Union and the Middle East as key growth areas for its renewable energy products.

While the company’s profit doubled in FY26 due to strong solar demand, financial analysts have noted that growth in inventory and receivables has led to negative free cash flow, making working capital management a primary risk for the 2026-27 financial year.
