What Hamas aims to do with its brutal murders

After around two weeks it is certain: the German Shani Louk was killed by the Hamas terrorists. The murder shows the brutality of Hamas’ strategy.

Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog made it clear: “Her skull has been found. That means that these barbaric, sadistic animals simply chopped off her head while they were attacking, torturing and killing Israelis,” Herzog said of the death of the German Shani Louk in an interview with the media “Bild” and “Welt”. The 22-year-old’s mother had previously told several media outlets that the Israeli army had informed her that her daughter was no longer alive. A little later, the Israeli Foreign Ministry also reported the woman’s death on the X portal, formerly Twitter. Here you can read more about it.

Her daughter’s body has not yet been found, said mother Ricarda Louk. It wasn’t her head that was found, but rather a sliver of a skull bone and a DNA sample was taken from that, the mother said. The parents had provided the authorities with the necessary comparison material a long time ago. Shani Louk liked to travel, loved art and music, and wanted to get to know the world, the mother previously recalled to her daughter when t-online spoke to her in Israel. Here you can read more about it.

“Unbearable videos”

The mother assumes that Shani Louk has been dead since October 7th – that is, at the time when Hamas launched its major attack on Israel. She previously spoke of her daughter possibly being killed by a gunshot to the head.

Images and videos that previously circulated on the Internet showed the young woman’s body on the attackers’ pickup truck. The video went around the world – and therefore fits into the communication strategy of the terrorist organization Hamas. “The goal is to trigger a feeling of helplessness, paralysis and humiliation,” said security analyst Michael Horowitz about the brutal images that have been circulating online since the terrorist group’s attack.

From Hamas’ perspective, such images are not a new phenomenon. However, the latest atrocities are spreading even faster than usual, believes historian David Colon from the Paris University of Sciences Po: Since Elon Musk took over the Twitter portal, the content on the portal has been checked noticeably less, resulting in “unbearable videos that used to be would have been deleted immediately, now remain online for hours,” Colon told the AFP news agency.

War crimes not an obstacle

Ruslan Trad from the US think tank “Atlantic Council” believes that it is no obstacle for the terrorist group that possible evidence of war crimes could spread around the world through the videos: “Hamas and its allies are not worried about it “that they are accused of war crimes and massacres; moreover, they do not mind being accused because they see the world’s institutions as useless and supported by the West,” he said.

With its brutal actions against Israelis, Hamas is trying to spread fear among the Israeli population – and thereby further escalate the conflict. “So far, Hamas’ calculations are working out, as they are acting with incredible brutality. And – as cynical as it is – they would like this to become a conflagration, for Hezbollah to intervene in Lebanon. And for the situation (… ) is becoming more and more dramatic,” said the head of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, to ZDF.
