Meta is exploring a new WhatsApp feature that would allow users to log out of the app without losing ⁤their chats and data. Currently,WhatsApp ties accounts to ‍devices, often requiring account deletion to fully disconnect.

The potential new logout feature was⁤ spotted‍ in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.17.37 for⁣ mobile devices, according to Android Authority. The update suggests Meta is internally testing the WhatsApp logout functionality.

The beta version reveals that the logout button might replace the “Delete account” option in account settings. Tapping the logout button‍ would present two choices: “Erase all Data & preferences” or⁢ “Keep all Data & preferences.” Selecting the latter would ⁢save account data ⁤on the⁢ device, allowing users to retrieve it upon⁣ logging back in with the same number.

It remains unclear if the‍ saved-chat logout ⁤feature will support ‍temporary ‍logins with different numbers. ⁢This would be useful for users needing to switch ⁤accounts or test new features.

The release date for the new WhatsApp features ⁢ is unknown, but the beta testing suggests a rollout to beta testers coudl happen before ⁤a wider release. Meta recently launched a standalone app for iPadOS.

Along with usability enhancements,Meta introduced advanced Chat Privacy last month. This feature prevents chat participants from downloading or exporting messages and stops automatic media downloads, enhancing user privacy.

What’s next

If the ⁤beta tests are accomplished, the⁢ new WhatsApp logout⁣ feature ⁣could‍ soon be available to a wider audience, offering a⁤ more convenient way to ‍manage their accounts.
