Manchester United beat Newcastle United 2-0 in the final of the 2022-2023 Football League Cup (EFL Cup) held at Wembley Stadium in London, England on February 27 (Korea time) to rise to the top.
Manchester United took the lead in the 33rd minute with Casemiro’s header. After that, Marcus Rashford’s extra goal in the first half increased the score. Manchester United held off Newcastle’s attacks well for the remaining time and lifted the sixth EFL Cup trophy of their career.
This ended Manchester United’s longest unbeaten run in the club’s history.
According to media football statistics ‘Opta’, Man United won the major tournament trophy in 5 years and 278 days after winning the UEFA Europa League (UEF) in 2017.
Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson was caught waiting in the locker room to congratulate Eric ten Haag after the championship was confirmed.
Meanwhile, the post-match interview also drew attention. A reporter asked what he thought of Lord Ferguson’s ‘hair dryer’. The hairdryer refers to the scene where Sir Ferguson shouts in the locker room and drives the players hard in a situation where he is behind in the first half.
