When did Manchester City lose the last four games in a row?

Manchester City picked up some negative stats yesterday, Saturday evening with a 2-1 loss to Brighton, most notably their worst losing streak in over 18 years.

After losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup, Bournemouth in the English Premier League and Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League, City suffered their fourth straight defeat in all competitions against Brighton.

The last time this happened was when the team suffered three defeats in their last three matches against Fulham, Arsenal and Blackburn Rovers in the 2005/2006 season, followed by another defeat in their opening match of the 2006/2007 season. Those were in the English Premier League, managed by Stuart Pearce.

It is only the fourth time that Guardiola has lost two consecutive matches in the English Premier League, having done so against Leicester City and Chelsea in December 2016, against Crystal Palace and Leicester City in December 2018 and against Wolverhampton and Arsenal in September and October 2023.

This was the first time that Manchester City striker Erling Haaland had lost a match in the English Premier League in which he had scored, and in the previous 46 matches in the competition when Haaland had scored, Manchester City had won 40 matches and drawn the other six.

It is worth noting that Brighton were the last Premier League side to beat Manchester City, after Guardiola’s side took a first-half lead at the Amex Stadium in 2021.

The defending champions play their next match on Saturday, November 23, after the international break, when they host Tottenham in the English Premier League.
