While they make decisions, the Petro Government and the ELN agreed to extend the ceasefire until February 5 – La Campana Newspaper

The Peace Dialogue Table meeting in Havana indicates that, once the evaluation of the current bilateral ceasefire is completed, another extension will be signed.

The national government and the ELN guerrilla agreed to extend the bilateral ceasefire until February 5, while they make substantive decisions regarding the conditions of a broader extension.

“Taking into account that today, January 29, 2024, the Cfbnt (bilateral, national and temporary ceasefire) expires, it will continue until February 5, 2024 under the conditions of Agreement No. 10 of 9 June 2023 and the protocols that have governed it until now,” cites a statement issued today by the Dialogue Table meeting in Havana.

He adds that “once the evaluation of the Cfbnt and this cycle is completed, the extension of the Cfbnt will be signed, which will strengthen, develop and include the aspects related to it that are contained in the agreements from 9 to 21, signed in June 2023 until the date”.

Among these aspects is “the suspension of withholdings for economic purposes (extortive kidnappings)” by the ELN, as well as the resumption of the process of participation by society and the creation of a national participation network.

The Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez Gómez, traveled to Havana over the weekend, in order to participate in the Round Table to discuss issues related to the extension of the ceasefire.

Currently, the Petro Government and the ELN are working on the development of the VI Cycle of the Dialogue Table, in which they address issues related to the bilateral ceasefire, the verification mission, the development of eight critical areas and the attention to humanitarian issues.
