WHO confirms first confirmed case of deadly Marburg virus in West Africa

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on the 9th local time that a fatal case of Marburg virus infection was reported in Guinea, West Africa, AFP news agency reported.

Although cases have been reported in South Africa, Angola and Kenya, this is the first time in West Africa.

The WHO said a man died in a village near the Sierra Leone-Liberia border and later tests tested positive for the Marburg virus.

Marburg virus is accompanied by high fever and severe headache, with a fatality rate of 88%.

The virus, known to be related to bats, is transmitted through contact with body fluids of an infected person, and there is no approved vaccine or antiviral treatment.

However, the WHO diagnosed that the threat is high at the national or regional level, but low globally.
