A mysterious illness has claimed the lives of at least 79 people in the western democratic Republic of Congo, prompting a swift inquiry by the World Health Association (WHO).
The outbreak, which began in late October, has also sickened an estimated 376 individuals in Kwango province, bordering Angola. Symptoms include fever,headaches,nasal discharge,cough,difficulty breathing,and anemia.
“We are working closely with national authorities to track this unknown illness and understand the situation,” said WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic. “A team has been deployed to the region to collect samples for laboratory analysis.”
