Disney live-action remakes needed” class=”wp-image-688663″>Disney has successfully remade several animated films into live-action. The studio has produced live-action versions of classic films such as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. Currently, they are working on remaking Snow White and Moana.
However, Disney is overlooking two films that initially underperformed but gained cult status: Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet. Both films are recognized as hidden gems and would thrive as live-action adaptations.
Why Atlantis: The Lost Empire Needs A Live-Action Remake

Atlantis: The Lost Empire was released in 2001. It opened shortly after Shrek became a blockbuster, which overshadowed it. The film features a story about a crew discovering Atlantis and saving it with the help of Kida, an Atlantean Princess. The animation combined traditional and CGI techniques, creating stunning visuals, but despite its quality, it did not perform well in theaters.
Despite its initial failure, Atlantis: The Lost Empire is perfect for a live-action remake. Its unique world, designed by Mike Mignola, could translate well into a live-action format. The film is an adventure, aligning more with Indiana Jones than Disney’s typical musicals.
Why Treasure Planet Needs A Disney Remake Now!

Released in 2002, one year after Atlantis, Treasure Planet combines the classic tale of Treasure Island with a space setting. This film could thrive as a live-action movie. It would be the first Disney live-action remake centered in the sci-fi genre, filling a gap in recent family-friendly adventures.
Treasure Planet also featured innovative animation techniques, mixing traditional 2D with CGI. Its aesthetic could shine in a live-action style, attracting viewers and revitalizing interest in its story.
Leaving Money On The Table

Both Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet are ideal candidates for live-action remakes because they initially failed but now have devoted fanbases. Disney’s current trend focuses on remaking successful films instead of exploring those that missed opportunities. By revisiting these films, Disney could cater to existing fans while attracting new audiences.
As we wait for Disney to recognize this potential, it might be time to revisit Stargate instead.
