Google is set to unveil the Pixel 11 Pro Fold on August 12, according to reporting from Android Central. The new foldable will launch alongside the standard Pixel 11 series, with retail availability following shortly after the announcement.

Closing the Hardware Gap

The device enters a diversifying market where Google must contend with the Motorola Razr Fold and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 series. While the Pixel 10 Pro Fold earned praise for its build quality and software, Android Central reports it lagged behind the competition in processing speed, weight, and camera performance.

Google aims to fix these shortcomings with a series of targeted upgrades. Leaks point to a new main camera designed to improve out-of-the-box photo quality. Under the hood, the company is switching to the Tensor G6 platform.

The Shift to 2nm Silicon

The 2nm architecture is expected to extend battery life and improve overall energy efficiency.

The War on Bulk and Creases

Slimmer is better. Recent leaks from Evan Blass / Leakmail indicate the Pixel 11 Pro Fold will feature a thinner design, mirroring a broader industry trend. Samsung, for instance, used silicon-carbon battery technology to fit a 5,000mAh battery into the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra without increasing the size or weight of the 4,400mAh unit found in the Z Fold 7.

Then there is the crease. Google previously succeeded with the inner and outer OLED panels on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold—which were cited as vibrant, well-calibrated, and brighter than the competition—but the display crease remains a primary area for improvement. Other manufacturers have already moved ahead; OPPO’s Find N6 showcases a design with no visible crease, and Samsung’s Z Fold 8 Ultra has come close to that standard.

A Fragmented Global Market

For consumers, the choice of a book-style foldable often depends on where they live. While the Vivo X Fold 5 and Find N6 are available in some markets, Android Central reports these brands have not expanded into North America.

This leaves the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra as the primary high-end alternative for those unwilling to wait for the August 12 event. Its strengths lie in its camera system, feature set, and design.
