The parking lot for the Eorimok Trail, one of the main trails on Mount Hallasan, was empty.

A strong wind and heavy rain poured onto the empty parking lot.

The rain also falls heavily on the main mountain roads.

Hallasan National Park has completely restricted all trails on Mount Hallasan to ensure the safety of hikers.

On the morning of the 5th, a heavy rain warning and a strong wind warning were issued in the Jeju area.

In particular, very heavy rain fell, ranging between 40 and 60 mm per hour, especially in the mountainous areas of northern and southern Jeju, and strong winds blew with a maximum instantaneous wind speed of over 15 meters per second .

In just an hour, from 11:00 to 12:00, 67 mm of rain fell on Mount Hallasan’s Samgakbong peak and 63 mm on Azalea Camp, and strong winds of 24.8 m and 17.4 m per second were observed on Samgakbong and Eorimok peaks, respectively.

“The rain started on the 4th and since the 5th heavy rain of 330 to 550 mm has fallen in the mountainous area. There will be heavy rain and strong winds in some areas until the night of the 5th, so be careful to avoid damage to the safety of the facilities .” “

Flight disruptions continued at Jeju Airport due to heavy rain and wind.

In the morning alone, 79 flights, including 77 national and 2 international, were delayed and 40 national and international flights were cancelled.

Additionally, some planes bound for Jeju were hijacked.

Because of this, many airport users, including tourists who were trying to travel to and from Jeju for the Children’s Day holiday, experienced inconvenience.

Korea Airports Corporation and airlines are taking measures to prevent inconvenience to users in preparation for an increase in flights delayed or canceled due to weather conditions.
