The report concluded that Woodard himself, or someone closely associated with him, was likely behind the network, driven by a desire for self-promotion.
Wikipedia’s Response and Cleanup
Following the exposure of the scheme, Wikipedia acted swiftly. global stewards removed 235 articles from smaller Wikipedia instances with limited moderation resources. Larger Wikipedias, including the English version, made their own decisions, resulting in the removal of another 80 articles and the banning of numerous accounts.
