- Despite strong growth projections, Wall Street analysts do not appear to expect a massive short-term pop for Nvidia stock following the upcoming update, according to Finviz data.
- Several potential catalysts could drive the stock higher if Nvidia delivers results or guidance that exceed current expectations.
Nvidia is set to report its fiscal 2026 second-quarter financial results on Aug. 27, according to financial reporting from Finviz. Wall Street consensus estimates project adjusted earnings per share of $1.01 and revenue of $46 billion for the quarter. If the company hits these projections, it will represent year-over-year growth of 48.5% for earnings and roughly 53.1% for revenue compared to the same period in the previous year.
Wall Street Expectations And Price Targets
Despite strong growth projections, Wall Street analysts do not appear to expect a massive short-term pop for Nvidia stock following the upcoming update, according to Finviz data. The consensus 12-month price target for the stock sits only around 8% higher than its current share price. With 58 out of 65 analysts surveyed by LSEG in August rating Nvidia as a “buy” or “strong buy,” analysts view the stock as a solid long-term pick without anticipating an immediate surge this week.
This cautious outlook persists even though Nvidia has easily topped consensus earnings per share estimates in each of the past four quarters. In fiscal Q1, the company’s adjusted earnings per share beat the Wall Street consensus by $0.06, which resulted in a modest 3% share price increase the following day.
Potential Catalysts For Nvidia Stock
Several potential catalysts could drive the stock higher if Nvidia delivers results or guidance that exceed current expectations. CFO Colette Kress noted during the fiscal Q1 earnings call that the ramp-up for the company’s new Blackwell GPUs has been “the fastest in our company’s history.”
Additional upside could come from bullish management commentary regarding artificial intelligence infrastructure demand. Major customers including Amazon, Microsoft, Google parent Alphabet, and Meta Platforms have signaled increased investments in AI infrastructure in their own recent quarterly updates. Furthermore, CEO Jensen Huang has stated that the company is talking with the U.S. government regarding the possibility of selling more advanced AI chips to China.
