Elon musk’s Texas mansion Faces Scrutiny Over Code Violations

WEST LAKE HILLS, Texas (May 7, 2025) — Tech mogul Elon Musk is ‍facing pushback from neighbors in West⁤ Lake Hills, Texas, over alleged code⁢ violations at‍ his residence. The controversy centers on a 6,900-square-foot mansion, valued at $6 million, where neighbors have raised concerns about construction and security measures.

Initial Concerns and Complaints

Residents initially were unaware of their new neighbor when Musk moved into the West Lake Hills‌ property. However,the construction⁣ of a 16-foot wire fence,coupled with the installation of exterior cameras and increased traffic,soon drew attention. Neighbors reported a constant flow of vehicles, including Teslas, and frequent shift‌ changes for security personnel.

The increased ‌activity led ⁢to complaints to the city of West Lake ​Hills, even after residents learned that Musk, the world’s richest man, was the⁢ homeowner.

Zoning‌ Disputes and Municipal ordinances

The complaints have escalated into a dispute over municipal ordinances, permits, and zoning exceptions. The issue reached‌ the Zoning and Planning Commission ⁢last month and is scheduled for discussion at the West‌ Lake Hills City Council meeting on May 14.

Paul⁢ Hemmer,a neighbor,voiced his concerns in⁣ a letter to the ​zoning and Planning Commission,co-signed by other residents. “The transport‌ of service ​employees to other houses, the parking ⁣of their cars in our ‌quiet streets and​ the transport of dirty clothes between‍ houses must end,” Hemmer wrote.

Code‍ Violations and Retroactive Permits

Musk’s property is reportedly in violation of six municipal ordinances.These include​ the construction of the fence and a metal gate without proper permits. The fence exceeds the city’s height ‌restrictions by approximately 10 feet. After neighbor protests, Musk’s team sought ‌retroactive permits for the unapproved projects.

Jim ​Pledger, a commissioner on the West Lake Hills Zoning and Planning Commission, stated⁢ that the ⁤commission unanimously voted against recommending exceptions ⁤for the property owner. Pledger emphasized that granting⁤ exceptions ⁤would “encourage ⁤people ⁤to break the rules.”

Potential Consequences

Unless the City Council overturns the commission’s decision, Musk might potentially be required to modify or remove the fence and gate to comply with local regulations.

Requests for comment from Musk went unanswered. An administrator associated with the property declined to comment.

musk’s Texas Expansion

Musk has been expanding his presence in Texas since 2021, relocating much of his business operations from California. He has established facilities for Tesla, spacex, and The Boring Company in the Austin and Bastrop areas.

Initially, Musk considered⁣ building a residential⁣ complex for himself and his children on a large ​tract ‌of land. After those plans fell through, he⁤ acquired other properties, including the West Lake ⁢hills mansion in 2022.

Neighborhood‌ Reaction

The location of the house,​ situated on a sloped lot with limited ⁢road access, has raised ‌concerns about security.Anne Yeakel, ⁣a⁣ long-time‌ West Lake Hills resident, noted, “The castles are supposed to be built on the​ hills, right? They were sophisticated buyers, and ⁣if security was priority, this was not the ideal house.”

While‌ Musk has maintained​ a low profile in ​the neighborhood, his presence is widely known among the⁤ community’s 3,400 residents. “It’s public knowledge here,” Yeakel said.

Family Compound

The West Lake Hills mansion is one of three properties Musk has acquired in the area in recent years, reportedly ‌to create a compound ‍for‌ his children. Claire Boucher, known as the musician Grimes, previously lived at the residence with Musk and their children. Shivon ‍Zilis, an executive at Neuralink and mother of children with Musk, resides nearby. Musk also purchased another mansion in the area about a year ago.

The dispute between musk and his neighbors remains unresolved,pending the City Council’s decision.
