Microsoft Prepares to Roll Out Windows 11 24H2 Feature Update

Microsoft is set to release the next Windows 11 feature update, known as Windows 11 24H2, to PCs starting next month. Paul Serratt announced a release date for the new Co-Pilot features that would align it with Windows 11’s annual feature update, Windows 11 24H2.

The transition of Microsoft 365 Apps to the entry point for Microsoft Co-Pilot will coincide with annual Windows 11 feature updates. The changes will roll out to managed PCs starting with an optional non-security preview build on September 24, 2024, and with monthly security updates for all supported versions of Windows 11 on October 8.

Windows 11 24H2 will be available for download starting September 24. To get the update, go to Windows Update in the Windows Settings menu and enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option. Otherwise, the update will be pushed to PCs starting October 8.

AI-Powered Features in Windows 11 24H2

Some of the AI-powered features in Windows 11 24H2 include Paint’s Co-Creator, Windows Studio Effects, and a speech clarity feature that filters out background noise. These features require a Co-Pilot+-capable NPU to function.

Features to Expect from Windows 11 24H2

Windows 11 24H2 is expected to bring a mixed bag of features, including significant performance improvements for Ryzen laptops, AutoSR (Automatic Super-Resolution) for improved visuals in regular games, and Wi-Fi 7 support.

Windows 11 brings a few UI changes here and there, with most of the improvements happening in apps. The Surface device has given us a taste of some AI experiences in Windows 11 24H2, including Co-Creator and Layers in Paint, and AI elements like removing backgrounds added to photos.
