Windows 11 Update Introduces Advertisements in Start Menu: How to Remove Them

Microsoft updates Windows 11 and advertisements will appear in the Start menu.Microsoft

If we were in the old days, when you paid real money for Windows 11, you knew there would be no ads, but those days are clearly over.

According to tech media Engadget, the latest Windows 11 update (KB5036980) was released a few days ago, and application ads will appear in the “Recommended” section of the most commonly used Start menu in the operating system.

According to the release notes, the Recommended section of the Start menu will show Microsoft Store apps developed by a select few developers.

App recommendations are enabled by default, but luckily you can still restore the original Windows experience if you install the update. The operation procedure is as follows: Go to “Settings” and select “Personalization” > “Start”, then set “Show suggestions, app promotions, etc. recommendations” to “Off”.

The new “feature” was officially launched a few weeks after appearing as an Insider Beta, which shows that Microsoft can get things done quickly when needed. Of course, this doesn’t leave enough time to solicit user feedback on the design of the Insider program.

Since Windows 11 Home Edition starts at 139 yuan, this update will definitely bother some users. While removing this feature is simple, it may also remind users of unnecessary time spent removing unwanted software from OEM Windows installations. Microsoft already tested ads in Windows 11’s File Explorer, but ended the experiment early.News from this newspaper
