Windows 11 Version 22H2 Rolls Out Fourth Major Update with Over 150 New Features
In a recent announcement, Microsoft has released the fourth major update to Windows 11 version 22H2, bringing along a plethora of exciting additions. The September 2023 Non-Security Preview Update showcases more than 150 new features, with a particular emphasis on enhancing the “Settings” app.
Introducing the New Home Page in the Settings App
One of the notable improvements in this update is the addition of a new Home page in the Settings app. Previously, when users launched the Settings app, they were greeted with the System page. However, moving forward, the Home page will now be the default opening page. The Home Page provides a convenient card-based interface, allowing users to quickly access frequently used settings. Notable features included in the Home Page are:
1. Microsoft 365: Users can now easily check their subscription contract status for Microsoft 365, requiring a Microsoft account.
2. Xbox: It is now possible to check the subscription status and benefits of Xbox, also requiring a Microsoft account.
3. Cloud Storage: Users can view the usage status of their cloud storage, again requiring a Microsoft account.
4. Bluetooth Device: Users can effortlessly toggle the Bluetooth connection of their devices on or off, as well as add new devices. The settings page provides an overview of all connected devices.
5. Recommended Settings: This feature enables users to quickly access both recently used and commonly used settings.
6. Customize Your Device: Users can now choose themes and switch between light and dark themes.
7. Keep Your Account Accessible: If the phone number associated with a user’s account recovery is not registered, they will receive a prompt to add it.
Please note that this page is only accessible for Windows 11 “Pro” and “Home” editions, and it is not visible on corporate-managed devices.
Addition of Specialized “Dev Drive” File System
Microsoft has added a specialized “Dev Drive” file system for storing development repositories in this update. Users can create a “Dev Drive” by navigating to the “System” page in the Settings app, followed by “Storage” and “Disks and Volumes.” Relevant settings and options, previously found under the [Ar gyfer datblygwyr] section, have now been consolidated on this page as well.
Support for LampArray HID and Dynamic Lighting
With the growing popularity of devices equipped with customizable lighting systems, this update introduces support for devices compliant with the “LampArray HID” open standard. Users can adjust their Windows accent color to match their lighting devices or select their favorite color for a personalized glow. These settings can be found under [Gosodiadau Personol] – [Goleuadau Dynamig].
Introduction of Adaptive Dimming
Devices equipped with auxiliary presence sensors will now support Adaptive Dimming. This feature enables users to automatically dim their screens when they leave their seats. To enable Adaptive Dimming, users can access the Privacy & Security page in the Settings app.
Relocating the [Ar gyfer Datblygwyr] Page
Previously found under [Preifatrwydd a Diogelwch], the [Ar gyfer Datblygwyr] page has now been moved to the [System] section. This change was made to accommodate additional non-security related options, such as the ability to end processes by right-clicking on the taskbar.
Other Noteworthy Changes
• Expanded Energy Recommendations: The update brings expanded options, including dark mode activation and the ability to adjust the refresh rate.
• Smartphone Collaboration: Users now have the option to disable smartphone collaboration on the [Bluetooth and Devices] – [Cyswllt Ffôn Clyfar] page. This feature pertains to establishing a “Personal Area Network” via Bluetooth on a smartphone.
• Improved Wi-Fi Features: Users can now check their wireless LAN password directly in the Settings app, addressing time zones changes. Additionally, the Task Manager settings page and camera streaming functionalities have undergone design improvements.
• Fluent Design System Compliance: The design of the firewall notification dialog in Windows Security has been modified to align with the elegant Windows 11 Fluent Design System.
Staged Introduction of New Features
To ensure the smooth rollout of these new features, Microsoft has implemented a feature called “Controlled Feature Delivery” (CFR). CFR gradually introduces features to specific environments, initially disabling them. Users can manually enable these features; however, it is advisable to exercise caution. If there are no major issues identified during the initial rollout, the features will eventually be released to the wider user base. Users concerned about OS stability may choose to wait until then.

First, a new Home page has been added to the Settings app. Previously, when you started the Settings app, the System page was displayed, but from now on, this page will be opened by default.

dynamic lighting
In recent years, an increasing number of devices, such as gaming mice and gaming keyboards, have lighting systems that can be controlled by programs. Initially, each company had its own implementation and were not compatible with each other, but recently an open standard called “LampArray HID” has been created, and efforts are being made to to standardize.
With this update, these “LampArray HID” compliant devices are now supported by the OS standard. The settings are summarized on the settings page[Gosodiadau Personol]-[Goleuadau Dynamig]and you can adjust the Windows accent color to match your lighting device, or make your device glow in your favorite color.

adaptive dimming
In addition, Adaptive Dimming is supported on devices with an auxiliary presence sensor. It’s possible to dim the screen when you leave your seat, and you can enable it on the Privacy & Security page of the Settings app.
[Ar gyfer datblygwyr]Move the page
The page[Ar gyfer Datblygwyr]which was previously under[Preifatrwydd a Diogelwch]moved to[System]. Originally, options to lower the security level were grouped together for ease of app development, so it was natural to find it in the section[Preifatrwydd a Diogelwch]but recently it has also added the ability to end processes by right-clicking on the taskbar. This is because the number of non-security related options has increased.

Other changes
Various other modifications were also made.

These new features are managed by a feature called “Controlled Feature Delivery” (CFR), which gradually introduces features from certain environments and is initially disabled. To enable it, you must enable the option manually. If you want to try it as soon as possible because you might become a human pillar, you should try it.
If there are no major issues in the environment where it is rolled out beforehand, it will eventually be rolled out to the general environment. Users who value OS stability may want to wait until then.
