When upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11, you cannot upgrade to Windows 11 unless Secure Boot is enabled on your computer. So what exactly is Secure Boot? So here, I will explain what kind of function Secure Boot is.

・ A system environment where only trusted software components can be used

Secure Boot is a security feature that improves security when starting a computer. And it’s a system environment that allows only digitally signed OS to boot, and can only use trusted software components. This enables the computer to boot safely.

・ Working between the operating system (OS) that controls each device and the firmware

Secure boot is one of the features of UEFI. And UEFI works between the operating system (OS) that controls each device and the firmware. In addition, UEFI is an abbreviation for Unified Extensible Firmware Interface, and as a firmware specification that replaces BIOS, functions can be significantly improved over BIOS. And by enabling this UEFI secure boot, you can boot your computer more securely.

I will explain how to enable secure boot in UEFI to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. And to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11, before enabling UEFI Secure Boot, you need to make sure you meet the system requirements for upgrading to Windows 11.

The way to check if you meet the system requirements for upgrading is to check with the “Windows PC Health Check App” provided by Microsoft. And the “Windows PC Health Check App”, access the “Windows PC Health Check App”.

Double click on “Installer”

After double clicking “Installer”, check the agreement, check “I accept the terms of the license agreement”, and select “Install”

Then the confirmation result will be displayed. You cannot upgrade to Windows 11 if you see the message “This PC does not currently meet the system requirements for Windows 11”.

And if the confirmation result screen says “Your computer must support secure boot”, then secure boot is disabled, so you need to enable secure boot.

In addition, on the confirmation result screen, you can check “Is TPM 2.0 enabled?” / “Is the processor supported for Windows 11?” / “Is the system memory insufficient?” It becomes

To upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11, the first way to enable UEFI secure boot is to start/reboot your computer and press Esc or F1 to enter BIOS. UEFI secure boot can be enabled from the BIOS screen.

After starting / restarting the computer, press the “Esc” or “F1” key on the keyboard. Then the BIOS screen will appear. Also, the BIOS screen can be displayed even when the computer is started.

To display the BIOS screen while the computer is running, click the “Start” button → “Settings” → “Update and Security” at the bottom left of the computer screen.

Then, the “UEFI Firmware Settings” screen will be displayed, so click “Restart” at the bottom right of the screen to restart the computer and display the BIOS screen.
