A recent food poisoning incident in the United States has attracted attention. Claudia de Albuquerque Celada, 23, from Brazil, was admitted to hospital for emergency treatment due to dizziness and muscle weakness. After arriving at the hospital, she developed breathing difficulties and general paralysis. After being transferred to the intensive care unit, she still relies on a ventilator to keep her alive and the relevant investigation results also found that Claudia may have suffered botulism poisoning from eating “suspicious canned soup” and the nerves of her body; they were attacked before she developed fatal symptoms.

According to reports from the New York Post and other foreign media, the incident occurred on February 17, local time, in Aspen, Colorado, United States. Claudia, 23 years old, experienced dizziness, paralysis, breathing problems and was admitted to hospital for emergency treatment due to symptoms such as difficulty and double vision. According to the doctor’s judgment, he was transferred to the intensive care unit for treatment and botulism poisoning was confirmed 2 weeks later.

A spokesperson for the Pitkin County Health Department said Claudia was suspected of consuming improperly stored canned soup, which caused a large amount of botulinum toxin in her stomach and caused food poisoning. The family also admitted that Claudia was 24 days old when she arrived at the hospital. As a child she was paralyzed all over her body. Not only were the muscles in her face, arms and legs weak, but she was not even able to breathe on her own.

It is understood that botulinum toxin is prone to appear in “improperly stored” homemade canned food, and the most obvious symptom of poisoning is paralysis caused by attacks on human nervous tissue. The relevant units also stated that this case was an independent incident and did not cause public harm. Due to the risk of infection, the public is urged not to panic, but to protect patient privacy, details of the case will not be released.
