Updated june 03, 2025
The financial services industry is preparing for a significant change as women are projected to control more than $30 trillion in assets by 2030. This shift highlights the need for more female Certified Financial Planners (CFPs), who often bring unique perspectives and strong client empathy to wealth management.
Currently, women represent only 24% of CFPs, indicating a considerable gap.Dr. Lisa Toppin, VP at Carson Group, noted the industry’s systemic challenges in making financial services a welcoming space for women. Carson Group is focusing on creating a supportive environment where women have the resources to succeed.
A Carson Group report, “2025 state of Women in Wealth Management,” surveyed 151 participants and conducted 17 in-depth interviews with women managing over $100 million in assets. The findings reveal that women are redefining success in the field.
Female advisors prioritize client satisfaction and building lasting relationships over asset accumulation. This client-centered approach is becoming a new industry standard.
Toppin explained that the shift toward client satisfaction requires a different skillset and awareness, especially as advisors broaden their client base.
Women are strategically designing their practices around their values, leveraging technology and team support to maintain a personal touch while scaling their firms. Over 60% of respondents prioritize operational efficiency, and nearly 89% see technology as crucial to their success.
Continuous self-investment is another hallmark, with female advisors pursuing advanced certifications, technology, mentorship, and succession planning.Among those managing over $100 million in assets,58% hold a CFP designation. Mentorship was cited as a key early-career decision by 47% of high-AUM women with over a decade of experience.
Toppin noted that many women experience impostor syndrome and combat it by building competence through professional growth.
For many, success goes beyond AUM. It’s about lasting client relationships, continuous growth and a culture of mentorship. at Carson, we’re proud to champion this vision because it represents both where the profession is headed and where it needs to go.
