Won-seok Lee from Yonsei University was selected by Seoul Samsung as the 1st overall pick in the KBL rookie draft.

Lee Won-seok (21 · 207 cm) from Yonsei University, a second-generation basketball player, was selected by Seoul Samsung with the first overall pick in the KBL Rookie of the Year draft.

Samsung, who has the first overall pick, was the first to call Lee Won-seok’s name in the 2021 KBL Rookie of the Year draft held at Jamsil Student Gymnasium in Seoul on the 28th.

In last year’s rookie draft, Samsung selected Cha Min-seok, who was due to graduate from high school, as the first overall pick, and secured Lee Won-seok as the first overall rookie for two years in a row.

Lee Won-seok, who is the tallest among the 37 players in the draft at 207 cm, is also well known as the son of Lee Chang-su, a KBL match analyst, from the national team.

Lee Won-seok said, “I would like to thank manager Lee Sang-min and the club officials for choosing me,” and said, “I am still limited to ‘won-seok’, but I will surpass my father and become KBL’s ‘jewel’.”

Suwon KT, who had the second-place selection right, selected Korea University Center Ha Yoon-gi (203 cm). 3rd place Goyang Orion chose Yonsei University guard Lee Jung-hyeon (188 cm). Ha Yoon-gi and Lee Jung-hyun are promising players who have already been selected for the senior national team. He was even mentioned as the first overall pick ahead of the draft.

Ha Yoon-gi said, “I will become a player who can change the atmosphere.” Lee Jung-hyun said, “I will become a player that represents the league like ‘Big Lee Jung-hyun (KCC)’.”

Ulsan Hyundai Mobis, who had the 4th pick, selected Korea University forward Min-seok Shin (199 cm), and Changwon LG, 5th-ranked, appointed Hanyang University guard and forward resource Lee Seung-woo (193 cm). Seoul SK chose Chung-Ang University center Seon Sang-hyeok (205 cm). Wonju DB brought Korea University guard Jeong Ho-young (189 cm).

Daegu Korea Gas Corporation, which was officially established the day before by taking over Incheon Electronic Land, nominated Yonsei University forward Shin Seung-min (196cm) as the 8th pick.

Jeonju KCC, the top team in the regular league last season, picked Kim Dong-hyun (190cm), a first-year guard at Yonsei University, the son of Ginseng Corporation manager Kim Seung-gi, as the ninth place. Anyang KGC Ginseng Corporation, the winner of last season’s championship match, selected Sungkyunkwan University guard Jo Eun-hoo (188 cm) as the 10th pick.
