WHO Issues Statement on Monkeypox Spread in DRC

Geneva, Switzerland – Foreign news agencies reported on November 26 that the World Health Organization (WHO) has released a statement regarding the alarming spread of monkeypox, also known as “MPOX”, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). According to the WHO, there have been a total of 12,569 cumulative cases and 581 deaths recorded from the beginning of the year until November 12.

Challenges in the DRC

Despite this alarming data, only 4 of the 26 provinces in the DRC have reported cases of infection.
