WTA will keep half of its ranking points at Wimbledon this year

[Sina Sports 5th]Wimbledon and the WTA are about to reach an agreement on ranking points, and this year’s Wimbledon will retain half of the ranking points. However, the ATP’s position remains firm, that is, to completely cancel the 2022 Wimbledon ranking points!

Wimbledon’s unilateral decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players because of the Russia-Ukraine conflict has been strongly condemned by the ATP/WTA/ITF tennis governing bodies, and they have all issued strongly worded statements. The ATP made the decision to cancel the 2022 Wimbledon ranking points on May 21.

However, British media reported on Saturday that the WTA has now partly abandoned that stance and will give women half of the ranking points at Wimbledon to prevent a mass boycott of the tournament.

According to the “Daily Mail” report, Wimbledon is close to reaching a “compromise” with the WTA on this to ensure that players can participate in the grass slam tournament.

Naomi Osaka has previously said she might choose to skip Wimbledon if she doesn’t have ranking points, although she is still listed in the entry list announced earlier this week.

The WTA has been keeping in touch with the players and communicating on related matters. A decision is expected in the next few days, as well as the official announcement that the Wimbledon ranking points will be halved.

In addition, a number of foreign tennis reporters also broke the news on social media that due to the impact of epidemic control, the ATP will follow the WTA, and there will be no Chinese season in 2022.
