Temba Bavuma has credited South Africa’s head coach, Shukri Conrad, for instilling the confidence he needed to embrace his role as Test captain. Conrad,who assumed his position in January 2023,had a playing career that began during South Africa’s apartheid era,when cricket was racially segregated.
Bavuma initially questioned his appointment. “When he told me I’d be Test captain, my first question was, ‘Why?'” Bavuma said. He viewed the captaincy as an honor that one simply accepts.
