Wydad bids farewell to the African Champions League despite its victory over ASEC… and Tanzania’s Simba qualified

The Moroccan team, Wydad Casablanca, exited the African Champions League in the group stage, despite defeating Asec Mimosas of Ivory Coast 1-0 in the match that brought them together this evening, Saturday, in the sixth and final round of the group stage of the African Champions League competition.

The only goal for Wydad came from Montaser Lahtimi in the 18th minute of the match, and Badr Kadarine was sent off in the 84th minute.

With this result, Wydad occupies third place in the group standings with 9 points, behind runner-up Simba of Tanzania with the same score of points, which succeeded in defeating Galaxy of Botswana by 6-0 in the match that was held at the same time.

The Moroccan team had a slight chance of qualifying, which was to win over ASEC of Ivory Coast, while awaiting a surprise from the Botswana team, Gwaneng Galaxy, by defeating Simba, which excels in direct confrontations against Wydad, but Gwaneng lost by six.

Wydad Sports Club achieved a valuable victory over its host, Gwaneng Galaxy, Botswana, with a free goal in the match that brought them together in the fifth round of the group stage of the 2024 CAF Champions League.
