Numerous accounts,⁢ especially those associated with the “America First” right-wing movement, were ​assigned locations ⁣far removed from their stated or likely origins.⁢ ⁢For example, some accounts identifying as American were listed⁤ as originating‍ in ⁢countries like russia, China, and various African nations. This led to widespread speculation about bot networks, foreign interference, and data errors.

Why the Confusion?

X owner Elon Musk acknowledged that the “data was not 100% ‌for old accounts” and suggested that “a few rough edges … will be⁤ resolved by Tuesday,” November 26, 2025.

According to The Verge, the inaccuracies likely ‌stem from a combination of factors.
