X Introduces Grok-Powered Timeline Curation for Premium Users on iOS and Android

X is putting its AI chatbot, Grok, in charge of user timelines for Premium subscribers, marking a shift from conversational assistance to AI-mediated content discovery as a core platform feature.

According to X product head Nikita Bier, Premium subscribers on iOS can now access a feature that allows them to pin specific topics to their home tab, with Grok processing every post to personalize feeds based on those selections.

The feature is powered by Grok’s understanding of every post combined with algorithmic personalization, meaning each timeline is tailored to the individual user, Bier stated in an announcement on Wednesday.

Bier noted that the personalization works even better for topics users already engage with regularly on the platform.

Early access to the Grok-powered timeline curation is currently limited to Premium subscribers on iOS, with Android users expected to gain access “very soon,” as stated by Bier.

Alongside the timeline curation feature, X is rolling out a tool that allows users to snooze topics on the For You tab, enabling them to mute content related to subjects such as politics or sports.

The custom timelines feature supports over 75 topics, ranging from design and robotics to real estate, allowing users to dive deep into specific niches of interest.

X describes the development as a transition where AI moves from being an optional enhancement to a foundational layer in how information flows through the platform, processing content by default rather than only when prompted.

Product experts note this mirrors the historical progression of recommendation algorithms evolving from auxiliary features to core mechanics, except in this case the algorithm itself is AI-mediated.

Industry observers will be watching for competitive responses from platforms such as Meta, LinkedIn and TikTok to determine whether this approach signals a broader industry shift toward AI-driven content curation as standard practice.
