X Social Network Restored in Brazil
This Wednesday, the social network X was active again for millions of users in Brazil, thanks to an update that introduces the use of dynamic IP addresses and Cloudflare’s service. The changes made have made the platform much more resistant to obstacles, as announced by The New York Times.
The restoration of service comes after the blockade imposed on August 30 by order of the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil. The social network announced that the act was not intentional and that it was due to coincidence.
A change in the network provider led to a temporary and involuntary restoration of service to Brazilian users, according to X’s Global Government Affairs account.
X shifted control of much of its web traffic to CloudFlare servers, a hosting services company that supports at least 24 million online pages. This move has made it more difficult for authorities to block the platform.
Basílio Pérez, president of Abrint, the business chamber of Brazilian internet providers, noted that “Cloudflare cannot be blocked, because half of the internet would be blocked.”
Although the exact number of users who accessed their accounts is unknown, many were celebrating the temporary restoration of service. However, it is likely that the Brazilian authorities will reach an agreement to restore the veto sooner rather than later.
