The Xnito Kid helmet hits the market at £115, offering e-bike-specific safety features and integrated lighting for young riders, cyclingnews.com reported. Designed by Ben Dai, the helmet carries the Dutch NTA 8776 certificate to protect against crashes up to 28mph.

Design And Safety Standards

The Xnito Kid mirrors its adult counterpart with a minimalist aesthetic and a matte finish available in various colours, specifically Dutch, Lavender, Urbanite, Lightening, Sky, and Princess. It weighs 338g and is 11.9oz, and is constructed in-mould with an outer polycarbonate shell fused to an inner EPS liner. The design extends lower behind the ears than traditional road helmets to provide greater rear and side coverage.

Meeting the NTA 8776 certification standard, the helmet is engineered for higher-speed impacts common on electric bicycles. However, cyclingnews.com noted that the model lacks Mips technology and does not carry a Virginia Tech rating. When the adult version was reviewed in 2023, the manufacturer pointed to Snell Foundation research questioning the added value of Mips systems.

Lighting And Practical Features

The helmet includes integrated front white and rear red LED lights powered by a single rechargeable battery with a USB-C connection. The rear lighting offers flashing, solid, and wavy patterns across up to 10 hours of run-time, carrying an IPX4 water-resistance rating. A magnetic buckle replaces traditional pinch-release straps for one-handed operation.

Sizing is restricted to a single range covering size S for heads from 51 to 54cm, which translates to 20.07 to 21.26in, and the model is noted as not ponytail-friendly. Review testing observed that ventilation is relatively minimal due to smaller exit vents inside the liner, which can lead to increased warmth during active pedalling. A detachable fabric visor and a sheet of customizable foam stickers are included with each purchase. Review testing observed the helmet fitting well on a child who usually wears an Abus Smiley 3.0 in size M covering 50-55cm, and noted it has been worn both on the back of a Tern Long Haul and while riding a Prevelo Alpha Two.

Pricing And Market Position

Retailing at £115 / $150 / €135, the Xnito Kid sits at the higher end of youth bicycle helmet pricing. Competitors such as the Ozmo Sidekick offer NTA 8776 certification and Mips technology at a lower price point, though without built-in lights. Xnito provides a 40 per cent discount code for the next size up upon purchase of the Kid helmet, alongside multi-buy family discounts.
