Xpeng G6 & G9 Launch in Europe – News & Updates
# Xpeng Electrifies with Next-Gen 800V Platform and Enhanced LFP batteries in G6 and G9 Updates
Xpeng is making significant strides in the electric vehicle market with substantial upgrades to its G6 and G9 models, centered around a cutting-edge 800-volt platform and advanced LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery technology. These enhancements promise faster charging, improved battery longevity, and a more premium interior experience, positioning Xpeng as a serious contender in the premium EV segment.
## Xpeng G6: A Charging Revolution Under the Hood
The 218 kW G6 RWD Long Range model is now powered by Xpeng’s next-generation 800-volt platform, a technological leap forward featuring new silicon carbide semiconductors. This update dramatically boosts the charging speed of its standard LFP batteries from 3C to an remarkable 5C. Xpeng claims a maximum charging capacity of up to 451 kW for the G6. While current DC charging points in many regions are limited to 400 kW, providers like Ionity are set to increase this capacity later this year, meaning drivers will soon be able to fully leverage the G6’s rapid charging capabilities.
### Unprecedented Charging Speeds and Enduring Power
According to Xpeng, the 80.1 kWh battery in the G6 can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in a mere 12 minutes at a compatible charging station. Beyond the lightning-fast charging, these new power storage units boast a significant environmental advantage: they are manufactured entirely without the critical raw materials cobalt, manganese, and nickel. Furthermore, Xpeng states that the service life of these batteries is up to 30 percent longer than previous generations. While the WLTP range for the G6 Long Range has seen a slight reduction from 570 to 535 kilometers, the drastically shorter charging intervals are expected to more than compensate for this.
### Subtle Design Tweaks, Significant Interior Upgrades
The facelift for the G6 is primarily technical, with design changes being more subtle. The exterior receives a new ‘Stellar Purple’ paint option, a revised rear diffuser, and an updated LED light strip that spans the entire front of the vehicle. Xpeng is placing a strong emphasis on the interior, promising significantly higher-quality materials. The cockpit has been wholly redesigned, featuring a new driver’s display,a revised steering wheel, and striking color-contrasting accents complemented by wood-look details. For seamless connectivity, smartphones can be integrated via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.## Xpeng G9: Luxury and Performance Elevated
Xpeng’s flagship G9 also benefits from the new LFP battery technology, with the basic rear-wheel-drive version starting at 59,600 euros after the update. While the exterior of the G9 remains unchanged, the interior has received a substantial comfort upgrade. This includes a thermally insulating panoramic sunroof and new comfort seats equipped with a ten-point massage function, enhancing the luxury SUV experience.
### Extended Range and Class-Leading Charging Power
The G9,a 4.89-meter-long luxury SUV that competes with vehicles like the BMW iX, offers energy storage units in 79 kWh or 93.1 kWh capacities. The maximum WLTP range is now 585 kilometers, meaning the G9 Long Range, priced at 63,600 euros, can travel an additional 15 kilometers on a single charge.
The charging power of the G9 is even more impressive than that of the G6,reaching a maximum of 525 kW. Despite its slightly larger batteries, the G9 also achieves the 10 to 80 percent charge in just 12 minutes. At the pinnacle of the range is the 423 kW G9 AWD Performance, which can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in a brisk 4.2 seconds, a remarkable feat for a 2.4-tonne vehicle. This top-tier version is priced at 72,600 euros. All Xpeng G9 and G6 models are electronically limited to a top speed of 200 kph.
These updates underscore Xpeng’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of EV technology, offering consumers faster charging, greater sustainability, and enhanced luxury.
