Yamaha has announced two new affordable home theater AV receivers, the RX300A and the RX500A, designed to bring immersive audio and updated streaming capabilities to a broader consumer base. According to reporting from Forbes, the company intends for these models to provide immersive home-theatre sound and the latest video and streaming capabilities to a wider range of entertainment lovers.

The RX300A, priced at $400, serves as a direct replacement for the RX-V385. This 5.2-channel receiver introduces support for Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X, along with 4K/120Hz compatibility and Bluetooth Multipoint. The unit also features dual subwoofer outputs and an updated on-screen display. While primarily a 5.2-channel system, Yamaha states the RX300A can be configured as a 3.2.2-channel system.

The higher-end RX500A is priced at $600 and offers a 7.2-channel configuration. In addition to Dolby Atmos, this model includes full DTS:X support and Zone 2 capabilities. The RX500A adds integrated Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity to facilitate music streaming via Google Cast, AirPlay 2, and Spotify Connect.

Yamaha is also launching the YHT-4970U system for $700, which bundles the RX300A receiver with a matched 5.1-channel speaker kit. The availability for these products is staggered throughout the third quarter of 2026: the RX300A is scheduled for release in June 2026, the YHT-4970U in July 2026, and the RX500A in September 2026.

Both new receivers feature a redesigned aesthetic that Yamaha describes as a more modern, streamlined approach. The new cosmetic design utilizes a cleaner front panel with fewer buttons and simplified labeling to improve the accessibility of primary controls.

Internally, the receivers adhere to Yamaha’s True Sound design philosophy, which influences vibration control, signal paths, and internal circuit layout. A notable technical addition is the Anti-Resonance Technology Wedge, a center-mounted fifth foot adopted from the brand’s flagship AVENTAGE models. This feature is intended to improve spatial accuracy, dynamics, and clarity for DTS and Dolby Atmos soundtracks.

This product launch follows a period of relative stability in Yamaha’s receiver lineup, with the company having last updated its receivers in 2020. This trend of slower update cycles has been mirrored across the industry, though CNET notes that Denon announced its AVR-S980H in April 2026.

Yamaha confirmed that the existing RX-V6A will remain part of the current product lineup alongside these new additions.
