Dodgers rally to defeat Yankees in World Series rematch
Updated May 31, 2025
The Los angeles dodgers, celebrating their previous World Series title, overcame an early deficit to beat the New York Yankees 8-5 on Friday. In their first encounter since the World Series, the Dodgers showcased their resilience with a four-run sixth inning rally.
Shohei Ohtani led the charge for Los Angeles, hitting two home runs against Yankees’ starter Max Fried. Fried, who had a stellar season prior to this game, surrendered six earned runs in just over five innings. The Dodgers’ victory snapped the Yankees’ five-game winning streak.
The game began with a power display as Aaron judge and Ohtani exchanged solo home runs in the first inning. The Yankees extended their lead to 5-2, but the Dodgers responded emphatically in the sixth. Ohtani’s second home run ignited the rally, followed by key hits from teoscar Hernández and Will Smith.

Freddie freeman contributed an RBI double, and Andy Pages tied the game with a ground ball. Michael Conforto’s bases-loaded walk put the Dodgers ahead. They added two more runs in the seventh, securing the victory and highlighting their strength as a World Series contender.
Earlier in the game, Austin Wells and Trent grisham homered for the Yankees, marking their first home runs since May 12. Paul Goldschmidt also contributed with a solo shot. Though, the Yankees’ offense cooled off after the early innings, and they couldn’t contain the dodgers’ powerful lineup.
Judge made a notable defensive play in the third inning, robbing Teoscar Hernández of an extra-base hit with a diving catch. Despite this effort and his early home run, the Yankees ultimately fell short against the determined Dodgers team.
After the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts praised Ohtani’s performance, noting his impact on the team’s offensive output. “Shohei is a game changer,” Roberts said. “His ability to hit for power and get on base is invaluable to our success.”
Yankees manager Aaron Boone acknowledged the Dodgers’ comeback, stating, “We had a good start, but we couldn’t hold them down. They have a great lineup, and they made us pay.”
What’s next
Both teams will continue their series, with the Yankees looking to bounce back and the Dodgers aiming to continue their winning ways. The next game promises another exciting matchup between these two baseball powerhouses.
