ANAHEIM,Calif. — The New York Yankees are solidifying their status as a top contender in the American League. On Monday, they defeated the Los Angeles Angels 5-1, marking their 14th win in the last 18 games.Anthony Volpe’s key hit and Ryan Yarbrough’s effective pitching were central to the Yankees’ latest triumph.
Manager Aaron Boone, while refraining from declaring victory, acknowledged the team’s potential.”We’ve got a lot of reasons to believe we have a chance to be a really good team,” Boone said before the game.
Volpe’s bases-clearing double in the fourth inning broke the game open, while Yarbrough pitched six strong innings, allowing just one run.The Yankees’ offense capitalized on opportunities, and their pitching staff continues to excel.
“I think every night,we’re just going out with confidence in each other,” Volpe said. “We just feel really good about the brand of baseball we’re playing.”
Despite missing key players like Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil, the Yankees’ pitching has remained strong. Yarbrough, in particular, has stepped up, posting a 2-0 record with a 2.25 ERA in four starts as replacing Carlos Carrasco in the rotation. as a whole, Yankees starters lead the majors with a 2.37 ERA this month.
