Yellow Alert Issued in Southern Districts of Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The southern districts of Kerala are under a yellow alert on Friday as the Central Meteorological Department warns of possible heavy rain. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts have been advised to be cautious amidst anticipations of isolated heavy rain.

In addition, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning for September 22nd and 23rd, stating that remote areas of the state may experience rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and wind speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour. Furthermore, the Central Meteorological Department advises that there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning in selected locations in Kerala on September 24th and 25th.

The National Center for Oceanic and Atmospheric Research has also put out a warning, stating that the Kerala coast may experience waves and storm surge reaching 1.7 to 2.0 meters in height until 11.30 pm on September 22nd. Similarly, the southern coast of Tamil Nadu may witness high waves of 1.6 to 2.0 meters along with a storm surge till 11.30 pm on the same day. Therefore, fishermen and coastal residents are urged to exercise caution.

The National Center for Oceanic and Atmospheric Research has advised that there is a possibility of 1.7 to 2.0 meter high waves and storm surge along the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm on the 22nd. According to the National Center for Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, a high wave of 1.6 to 2.0 meters and storm surge is likely to occur along the southern coast of Tamil Nadu till 11.30 pm on the 22nd. Fishermen and coastal residents should be careful.
