Yeosu City Center Public Health Branch, Get ‘Free Vitamin D Test’

[제주교통복지신문 김강석 기자] Yeosu City will hold a ‘blood vitamin D free test’ for 2,500 people on a first-come, first-served basis.

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient in our body that prevents diseases related to bones and joints, including osteoporosis. Vitamin D deficiency increases the risk of infection with various infectious diseases, and is said to be associated with diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and autoimmune diseases.

According to the city, a free vitamin D test was carried out on 2,519 citizens last year, and 69.5% (1,751 people) were found to be deficient or deficient. In particular, the lower the age group, such as those in their 10s and 30s, the higher the defect or deficiency rate.

In response, this year, it was decided to support free vitamin D tests to prevent the deterioration of citizens’ immunity and the risk of various diseases due to the prolonged COVID-19.

Citizens who want to get tested can check their vitamin D level through a blood test by bringing their ID card and visiting the Jungbu Public Health Branch (next to the Yeoseo-dong Community Service Center).

In the case of a deficient person, the city checks whether the condition has improved through a total of 3 re-examinations when a person visits a public health center after constantly managing dietary life and supplementing nutrients for 3 to 4 months.

A city official said, “Vitamin D is synthesized in the body when exposed to sunlight, so you can go for a walk for about 20 minutes a day and try to improve your eating habits.” I want you to control it,” he said.
