French President Macron, who is on a state visit to the United States, raised the issues of the Deflation Act and the IRA at a summit with President Biden.

President Macron, who had even used the phrase “extremely harmful law” for the bill that sparked controversy about discrimination against foreign electric vehicles, continued his criticism.

In response, President Biden revealed that there will be small flaws that will need to be adjusted when creating large-scale legislation.

It is evaluated that it is unusual for President Biden to suggest the possibility of modifying the IRA, which has been identified as a representative legislative achievement.

“It was not our intention to exclude our allies from working with the United States. We will continue to increase manufacturing jobs in the United States, but never at the expense of Europe.”

In the joint statement, the two heads of state committed to strengthening cooperation between the United States and the European Union in a mutually beneficial way.

“We have agreed to realign our approach and agenda with major emerging industries and investments in semiconductors, batteries, hydrogen and more.”

Korea and other European countries are analyzing the meaning of President Biden’s comments and expect that the bill will be greatly eased.

However, given the fact that President Biden, who has announced his intention to challenge for re-election, continues to promote the IRA as an achievement, the observation that general revision will be difficult even if there are minor adjustments are strengthened.
