Today (23rd) the Ministry of Justice’s Amnesty Review Committee was held, which decides who is eligible for a year-end special pardon.

It is known that the jury included former President Lee Myung-bak on the pardon and lottery list, and former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Gyeong-soo on the non-lottery pardon list.

The Ministry of Justice held a pardon review committee and discussed a special pardon review plan at the end of the year.

“(How are you going to judge today?) I don’t know. We have to be thorough.”

Unlike the last Liberation Day special, which focused on businessmen, this time, an amnesty for politicians was discussed, drawing attention.

After about 6 hours of review, it is known that the amnesty committee has included former President Lee Myung-bak and former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Gyeong-soo in the list of pardon subjects.

Former President Lee did not further extend the stay of execution, which expires this month, and since President Seok-Yeol Yoon has also talked about the need for an amnesty, amnesty has been strongly considered .

Former Governor Kim, who was sentenced to two years in prison last year for the ‘drunk comment handling case’, has about five months left in prison.

He refused to be pardoned by revealing a handwritten ‘parole non-application’, but it was reported that he was included in the pardon without a lottery ticket.

As a result, his right to vote is restricted until May 2028, and he will not be able to run for elected office.

However, political activities are possible, but recently, in the Democratic Party, the role of former governor Kim in the party has been raised.

In addition, Choi Kyung-hwan, former Deputy Prime Minister of Economy and Minister of Strategy and Finance, and Jeon Byung-hun, former chief of staff for political affairs of the Blue House, were also on the pardon list.

On the other hand, it is known that former Prime Minister Han Myung-sook, whose pardon has been discussed, did not pay 700 million won in fines and was not subject to an audit.

If Minister Han Dong-hoon reports to President Yoon the targets set by the judges, President Yoon is expected to issue a pardon after finalizing the list at the cabinet meeting on the 27th.
