China, New Year holiday crowds … Corona infection critical crisis

[앵커]

Even in China, where the number of corona19 infections is exploding, the streets on New Year’s Eve were packed with crowds.

There are also comments that the first three days of the holiday after quarantine measures are more or less lifted will be a critical point in the spread of Corona 19.

“3, 2, 1. Happy New Year.”

People fill the square cheering for the new year.

Blow up balloons, take pictures together, and make a wish.

“Last year, COVID-19 was severe, and some of my family members were in the hospital. I wish you good health in the new year. This is the most important thing.”

A large-scale New Year celebration was held in Wuhan, Hubei Province, where Corona 19 was first confirmed in China three years ago.

In addition to the joy that most of the quarantine measures that have been controlling everyday life have disappeared, the fear of infection remains.

“It’s still scary tonight, but everyone came out and I came out. (What’s scary?) What’s scary is getting infected again.”

Most of China, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou in Guangdong Province, was not much different.

With the lifting of quarantine measures, a large-scale population movement is expected during the three-day New Year holiday, which is expected to increase significantly compared to the 86 million people who moved during the same period last year when asked PCR negative certificates.

The problem is that the possibility of cross-infection due to population movement may increase amid the recent trend of corona infection spreading from cities to rural areas.

Chinese quarantine experts predict that this three-day holiday, the first after the relaxation of quarantine measures, will be the first peak of the corona wave and reach its peak during the Lunar New Year at the end of this month.

In the midst of this, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized patience and unity in his New Year’s address.

“At the moment, the infectious disease prevention and control policy has entered a new phase. It is still difficult, but everyone is working relentlessly, and the dawn is just around the corner.”

President Xi said, “Let’s give a little more strength, and suffer and unite is victory.”
