6.5 magnitude earthquake in Ishikawa, Japan… Yeojin only 40 times

[앵커]

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit Ishikawa Prefecture in Japan, killing one person and injuring 20 others.

A strong tremor was felt even in the surrounding area.

With more than 40 aftershocks continuing, the possibility of additional strong earthquakes has also been raised.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 occurred in Japan around 2:00pm on the 5th.

In the Noto Peninsula in northern Ishikawa Prefecture, so-called ‘long-period earthquakes’, which affect tall buildings with a long period of vibration, have been observed.

In Suzu City on the Noto Peninsula, which is close to the epicenter, a magnitude 6 tremor was observed, and a magnitude 5 tremor was detected in a nearby city.

Tremors caused by the earthquake were seen in a wide area, such as a magnitude 4 earthquake was felt in Toyama, Niigata and Fukui prefectures near Ishikawa Prefecture.

The earthquake killed one person and injured 20 others, including a 65-year-old man who died after falling off a ladder.

In some areas, landslides pushed rocks and soil up to houses, and buildings tilted and collapsed one after the other.

Dozens of aftershocks followed, including a magnitude 5.9 earthquake around 10 pm

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida quickly assessed the extent of the damage and ordered the government to work together to devise disaster countermeasures.

“The police and firefighters, the Self-Defense Forces and the Korean Coast Guard will make every effort to prepare disaster contingency plans with saving life as the top priority.”

The Japan Meteorological Agency called for special attention to residents of the affected areas, saying, “In areas where shaking was strong, there is a high possibility that another large earthquake will occur for 2 to 3 days.”
