Shida, currently participating in the Asian Badminton Championships in Ningbo, took to social media to address the issue.According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), she stated that the stalking had been ongoing for approximately 18 months during her visits to China.
“Thank you to everyone who supports me,” Shida wrote,”but I want to ask you,my fans,I was stalking every time I played in China. It has been continuing for a year and a half, and I was so uncomfortable and afraid recently.”
She urged those engaging in such behavior to cease instantly. “stalking or similar behavior to him immediately stop,” she said, adding, “If this continues, I think I should find a solution in any way.”
Rising Popularity and Previous Incidents
Shida’s popularity has surged, particularly in China, after she and her doubles partner secured a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. She has also garnered attention online, with some fans dubbing her “the most beautiful badminton player.”
This is not the first time Shida has spoken out about unwelcome attention. In november 2023, during the China Masters competition, she addressed instances of stalking and unwanted contact, requesting that fans respect her personal space.
Past Condemnation
Following the 2023 incident, the China olympic Committee issued a statement criticizing what it termed “low-end fans,” asserting that their behavior “hinders sports spirit and social morality.”
