“Yoshi’s CUP” is a tournament that Nishioka started in 2021 for juniors who are serious about going professional. The winner will receive an activity support grant, which is unusual for a junior player tournament, and will be supported to play overseas. It is a tournament for the next generation created for the future where Japanese players will be active in tennis, a globally popular sport.

Matsuoka Hayato won the first tournament in 2021, Maeda Toku won the second tournament in 2022, and Kawanishi Tobiu won the third tournament last year.

According to the official website, “It has been decided that the 4th Yoshi’s CUP will be held on December 14th (Sat) and 15th (Sun). This year, we will be inviting potential players to participate based on the results of the All Japan Junior 14 and Under Championships, the top 4 and above under 16 tournaments, and other competitions.” The tournament aims to evolve as a place to get a ticket to the world, and a place to realize the importance of ‘winning’.”

Nishioka also posted on X, “We will do our best to make the 4th Yoshi’s Cup a great tournament this year as well. We will be live streaming again this year, so please look forward to it!”
