Bee Gees’ Extended Dance Mixes Get Limited Edition Release
– A new limited edition 4LP box set, You Should Be Dancing: The 12″ Collection, is set to release on or around , featuring fourteen extended dance versions of Bee Gees classics. The collection is currently available for pre-order exclusively through the Bee Gees’ and Universal Music’s online storefronts.
The box set, limited to just 1,000 units, focuses on the Brothers Gibb’s iconic 1970s disco sound. It includes the original Disco Mixes of hits from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, such as “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” and “More Than a Woman.” Also featured are vintage seventies mixes of pre-Saturday Night Fever dancefloor favorites like “You Should Be Dancing,” “Boogie Child,” and “You Stepped Into My Life.”
Beyond the familiar tracks, You Should Be Dancing: The 12″ Collection boasts five previously unreleased extended mixes. These include extended versions of “Nights on Broadway” and “Jive Talkin’” from 1975, as well as 1979’s “Tragedy” and “Love You Inside Out.” The set also includes an extended mix of “If I Can’t Have You.”
The collection isn’t solely focused on archival material. It also includes SG Lewis’ 2021 remix of “More Than a Woman,” which gained viral popularity, marking its first appearance on a physical release. Notably, both the Bee Gees’ and Tavares’ versions of “More Than a Woman” were featured on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, with Tavares’ recording achieving top ten status in the U.K. And top forty in the U.S.
The set also includes a rare update of “You Should Be Dancing” reimagined as the bonus track “Decadance” for the Bee Gees’ 1993 album Size Isn’t Everything. Previously only available outside of the US, “Decadance” is featured in both its original incarnation as well as the Ben Liebrand Vocal Mix.
Despite the resurgence of interest in vinyl, this collection will not be available on compact disc, mirroring the limited release of the group’s 2015 extended mixes EP, Extended EP, on Rhino Records. The box set is priced at $79.98 and is limited to four copies per customer.
