YouTube Dominates streaming Charts in April, Nielsen Reports
YouTube continues its reign atop Nielsen’s Media Distributor Gauge, securing the No. 1 position for the third consecutive month. The April report, which tracks television viewing across broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms, revealed YouTube’s market share reached 12.4%, a 0.4% increase from March. This represents the platform’s strongest showing to date in streaming viewership.
The Walt disney Company secured second place with 10.7% of total consumption, a 0.2% increase. disney’s numbers benefited from cross-platform coverage of major sporting events, including the NFL Draft and NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, broadcast on ESPN and ABC. The frist round of the NBA Playoffs, also on ESPN and ABC, contributed to the media giant’s strong performance.
Paramount Global landed in third place, capturing 8.9% of viewership. The company saw a 0.4% increase, largely attributed to its CBS broadcast affiliates. NBCUniversal followed closely in fourth place with 8.2%,a 0.2% gain. Netflix rounded out the top five, experiencing a slight dip of 0.4% to land at 7.5% of total consumption.
Among other key players in media distribution, Fox Corp. slipped slightly, dropping 0.2% to 6.8%. Warner Bros. Discovery held steady at 6.7%, while Amazon maintained its position with 3.5%. The Roku Channel saw a 0.2% increase to 2.4%, and scripps remained consistent at 2.1%.
