Some YouTube Premium Lite subscribers are receiving notices that ads will soon appear in YouTube Shorts. ⁣The change, effective at⁢ the end of June, impacts ⁤users in specific regions.

youtube ‌Premium⁢ lite provides ad-free access to⁤ the‌ majority⁢ of⁣ YouTube’s⁤ extensive video library at a reduced cost. This makes it an appealing option for those who don’t require the additional features of the full ⁢YouTube Premium subscription, such as YouTube Music.

However, Google has always maintained some exceptions to the ad-free experience, including music content and, notably, YouTube Shorts. While these exceptions have been minimal‌ for many‍ users, the ‌situation is evolving.

Reports indicate that users in Germany are among those receiving email⁤ notifications about the upcoming change. These messages inform subscribers ‍that ads will begin appearing in Shorts content starting June 30.

Google clarified that ⁤when YouTube Premium Lite was initially ⁤tested last fall, the service launched⁤ in Australia, Germany, and‍ Thailand before expanding to the U.S. At that time, subscribers in Germany and Thailand were not informed about the potential for ads in Shorts.‍ As⁢ the service evolved and ‍expanded, the inclusion of ads ‌in Shorts became standard, and Google is now updating its initial subscribers⁤ in Germany and Thailand.

What’s next

The notifications⁣ serve⁣ as a reminder to YouTube ⁢Premium Lite⁣ subscribers in certain regions about the existing policy regarding ads in Shorts. Most subscribers ‌were⁢ already aware⁤ of this‍ limitation, but Google is now ⁣ensuring that all users are informed.
