Wheelhome has introduced the Dashaway ECT series, a line of micro-camping trailers specifically engineered for electric vehicles and other small, efficient tow cars. The series focuses on a lightweight, low-profile design to minimize the impact on the towing vehicle’s energy efficiency while providing essential amenities for off-grid travel.
The Dashaway ECT is available in two primary configurations: the ECT 2 and the ECTS. The ECT 2 is designed for two people and features a dual-seat lounge that converts into a double bed. Because the ECT 2 utilizes its space for seating, it relies on a portable induction cooker and a fold-down shelf for food preparation.
The ECTS, or Solo model, is tailored for a single occupant. In place of the second seat found in the ECT 2, the ECTS includes a dedicated kitchen counter. The sleeping area in the ECTS consists of a single bed with additional mattress space intended for a pet.
Both models in the series incorporate several shared technical features to maximize utility within a compact footprint:
- A high-lifting roof that provides six feet of headroom once deployed.
- A towing height of under four feet to maintain a sleek, aerodynamic profile.
- A sink located on the left-hand side of the trailer.
- Under-floor storage compartments for gear.
- Fold-down shelves that function as dining tables or desktops.
The design of the Dashaway ECT is described as having a profile similar to a squashed teardrop trailer
, intended to ride as low as possible to reduce drag. This approach is central to its compatibility with electric vehicles, where towing aerodynamics significantly affect battery range.
To support off-grid functionality, the trailers are gas-free. They utilize a large battery pack and solar panels to provide autonomy, which the manufacturer states allows for two nights of off-grid use in the standard specification. The company claims the trailer can be set up in two minutes.
The development of the Dashaway ECT began with a different application. According to Wheelhome founder and chief Stephen Wheeler, the trailer was originally envisioned as a rooftop camper for the Tesla Model 3 before it was evolved into a standalone towable unit.
Wheelhome, a UK-based company, has a history of producing low-volume compact RVs. The current ECT series is a successor to the original Dashaway travel trailer introduced approximately 10 years ago, which featured a pop-up design and a customizable interior.
As of May 7, 2026, Wheelhome has added a new optional accessory to the ECT series: an awning. This addition creates an over-door sunshade and an auxiliary tent room, expanding the usable living space outside the main trailer body.
