Korea-Japan relations are likely to be normalized

President Yun Seok-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida began their first bilateral meeting since taking office at 12:25 pm on the 21st (local time).

An official from the presidential office made this statement in a press release on the same day.

The official face-to-face meeting between the leaders of Korea and Japan is the first in more than two years and nine months since – President Moon Jae-in and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held bilateral talks on the occasion of the Korea-China Summit- Japan held in Chengdu, China in December 2019.

The two leaders are expected to discuss ways to normalize Korea-Japan relations at the meeting held in a conference hall in Manhattan, New York.

It is worth noting whether the issue of past history will be discussed.

The meeting was held in a blitz after both sides fought for flags.

Until this morning, the presidential office had been silent on whether the meeting would take place, saying, “I will tell you when the situation develops.”
