The prosecution’s indictment on the alleged sponsorship of Seongnam FC was said to confirm that Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party, and Jeong Jin-sang, head of the political affairs coordination office, colluded.

According to Yonhap News on the 1st, the 3rd criminal division of the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office (Director Min-jong Yoo) was accused of exchanging 5.5 billion won in bribes in the name of Seongnam FC advertisement sponsorship in exchange for convenience such as changing use on the day previously, on the 30th of last month (severe punishment for specific offences) While indicting former Seongnam City Strategy Promotion Team Leader A and former CEO of Doosan E&Ch B without detention for bribery under the Bribery Act, and etc.)

While serving as the owner of Seongnam FC during his tenure as mayor of Seongnam, Lee attracted 16 billion won in donations from companies such as Doosan E&C, Naver, and CHA Hospital from 2016 to 2018, and these companies are suspected of receiving facilities such as building permits and land use changes

Doosan E&C has been accused of receiving preferential treatment for switching 3,000 pyeong from Jeongja-dong Hospital in Bundang-gu, owned by the Doosan Group, to commercial land by paying advertisement sponsorship.

The prosecution, which is investigating this allegation as a case of third-party bribery, believes that the former A-team leader took on hands-on roles under the orders of then-Mayor Lee and CEO Jeong.

As the prosecution begins a re-investigation into Naver Hospital and CHA, which the police did not initially think were suspects, prosecutions against those involved in bribery are expected to continue in the future. As soon as investigations of other companies are completed, it is expected that a summons investigation will also be conducted against CEO Lee and General Manager Jeong.

Regarding this, representative Lee said, “It is a political show by the prosecution to cover up the circumstances of the succession of the Yoon administration. “The prosecution must be held accountable for enforcing crime and hunting rather than investigating.”
