[국제]Nigeria: Omicron was detected in confirmed cases of tourists visiting in October

It was newly discovered that there were cases of COVID-19 in October, before the new mutation, Omicron, was first reported in South Africa.

According to Reuters, Ipedayo Adettipa, director-general of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said on the 1st of local time, “Omicron mutations were detected in samples taken from confirmed travelers who visited Nigeria in October.”

This is earlier than South Africa collected a sample on the 9th of last month, discovered the omicron mutation for the first time on the 11th, and reported it to the World Health Organization and WHO on the 24th, suggesting that the mutation had already spread to neighboring countries before the first report. .
