An amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, which determines the defense and security budget of the United States for the next year, was drawn up by agreement between the secretaries of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

As for South Korea, it was said that the USFK would be maintained at the current level of 28,500.

The budget of 68 million dollars and 90 billion won that is required for the full implementation of the USFK was reflected.

In addition, it also contains content confirming the commitment to provide extended deterrence by using all US defense capabilities in accordance with the mutual defense agreement.

The White House also made it clear that it will continue to defend South Korea and Japan in response to the North Korean threat.

The National Defense Authorization Act specified that the nuclear deterrence capabilities of Russia, China and North Korea should be submitted to Congress as a report within 270 days of enactment of the law.

In particular, for Taiwan, which is threatened by China, it was added that it would strengthen military support, such as providing US$10 billion in loans for five years to buy US weapons.

It also includes new content to exclude Russia from major international organizations such as the G20.

The National Defense Authorization Act was able to reach an agreement as the Democratic Party made concessions to eliminate the mandatory corona vaccine for the US military, which the Republican Party requested.

President Biden is still in the position that vaccines are needed, so the US media say that the signing of the bill is opaque.
